OUR BUILDING
Named after a reader, an explorer, a community member, a speaker, an enthusiast, a poet...
PS 158, The Bayard Taylor School, carries forth the history of potential and learning in its walls. Developing life-long learners through belonging, inclusion, equity and authentic experiences.
EXTERIOR MODERNIZATION
Our historic school building underwent a tremendous exterior modernization that wrapped up in 2019.
This update restored our beautiful building to its original Beaux-Arts facade and its landmark status, that will be resilient for years to come.
Take a look at our building, do you see 'Avenue A' rather than York Avenue?
We are glorious both INSIDE and OUT!

AUDITORIUM

The PS 158 auditorium provides a space for students to experience community gatherings. Students participate in music, dance, theater and build creativity, confidence and self-expression. We come together for performances and celebrations that foster school spirit and belonging.
The auditorium brings the wider world into the school by hosting authors, scientists, speakers, dancers and experts who share their diverse stories and perspectives.
Finally, the auditorium gives space for students to develop public speaking skills and learn to be engaged audience members - all essential for well-rounded development beyond academics.
The PS 158 auditorium is dedicated in memory of F.D.N.Y. Lieutenant Robert B. Nagel, a beloved hero, who ran to save others, on a day he had off, on 9/11. Lt. Nagel's wife was PS 158 school secretary in 2001. We are grateful and we remember.
SCHOOL YARD
PS 158 students PLAY every day.
Active play encourages participation, collaboration, negotiation, teamwork, problem-solving skills, conflict-resolution skills and raises the heart rate... leading to stronger muscles, better coordination and overall health - physical, emotional and social.
Getting to be outdoors - with a turf, a running track, basketball hoops, climbing equipment, soft space and garden - helps our students to strengthen not only their bodies and immune system, but further their memory and learning functions. Let's PLAY!
LEARNING SPACES
Students at PS 158 read, write, problem-solve, collaborate, investigate, play, create, revise and celebrate every day.
Our physical space provides resources for each child to develop social-emotional, academic, creative, and leadership potential.
Our accessible space fosters a fully inclusive, safe and flexible life-long learning community for all of our students, families, teachers and staff.
